Eco Friendly Wedding Tips

Happy Earth Day, everyone! We know emerald green is the color of the year, but going green for your BIG day has been on the rise for quite some time now. Many couples who chose to go green for their wedding day have already implemented earth-conscious changes into their every day life - recycled their glass, paper and plastic, shopped for organic food at farmers’ markets and conserved energy at home, so they want to bring their every day values into one of the most important days of their lives.

Eco Friendly Wedding Tips

Check out a few of our eco friendly wedding tips:

1. Venue - Picking a venue that is in close proximity to the majority of your guests is a great option. Choose a local farm/barn or a gorgeous botanical garden, you will have the natural beauty that each represent and it will limit the need for additional decor. For an indoor wedding, consider choosing a venue that uses environmentally-sound practices for water conversation, energy efficiency, garbage disposal and recycling programs. If you're in NJ or NY, check out Natirar for a farm-to-table menu!

2. Guest List - Watch your growing list of guests, the biggest factor in the ecological and financial impact of your wedding will be its size. Each person you invite means more miles traveled, more food consumed, a bigger venue, and more waste when it's all over. Since this is your big day, invite as many loved ones as you want, but keep an eye on the numbers and be aware that the more the guest list grows, the harder it will be to narrow down the list.

3. Invitations - The etiquette in us still feels as though a snail mail paper invite is necessary as opposed to an electronic one (Evite), however, you can spare a few trees by choosing a recycled paper card stock. Check out a few cute ones here: Minted.com

4. Gifts - Some couples are opting for honeymoon registries or donations to their local chairities, while others are choosing bamboo products for their registry. Be sure to check with any registry to see if the couple requests no gift wrap.

5. Favors - Be sure to use Eco-friendly bags to wrap your treats for guests, packages of seeds for guests to plant gives them a reason to get out there and use their green thumb. We love when our clients make use of their extra large centerpieces as favors for guests - have your florist return near the end of your reception to make small hand tied bouquets for a parting gift for guests to enjoy.
