Bridal Trend: Convertible Gowns, 2 for 1!

Wedding dresses that give you two looks for the price of one are on the rising trend for brides in 2013. Instead of buying two separate dresses - a more formal dress for the ceremony and pictures, and a "fun" dress for the reception, the top designers have offered brides the convertible dress - in other words, two dresses in one (for the price of one).

We here at Peony Event's think this is brilliant and such a great alternative for the bride who wants two different looks, why?

1. 2 for the price of 1, hello!
2. You’ll have a ceremony dress and a reception dress that will coordinate perfectly.
3 . Instead of a complete wardrobe change, simply take off a top or bottom-easy, breezy and a gorgeous new look!

Check out these five fabulous finds. We saw the Anne Barge gown last week at Elizabeth Johns in Morristown, NJ and completely fell head over heels in love-it's stunning!

We'd love to hear if you're wearing a convertible dress on your special day, you did, or just share your thoughts.

Tips For Rainy Day Weddings

Wedding day forecast: RAIN.

We’ve never come across a couple who was wishing for a wedding day filled with rain; however, it’s always a possibility. Instead of stressing about the tears of mother nature, embrace the fact, be prepared and make the best of it. Preparation is good not only for you mentally but also for your wedding party & guests. After all, they do say it's good luck and we all need a little luck..

If you’re having your wedding at an outdoor venue, you most certainly need to have a plan B in place. By having a professional wedding planner to help plan your wedding this plan B will already be in place. You can also utilize the help of a Day of Coordinator to assist on the day of your wedding, as we have plenty of first-hand experience in dealing with rainy day weddings. Check out our tips for rainy day weddings!

{Plan B Updates}

Include a separate inclement weather card. This card goes out with your wedding invitations. If you are planning a wedding during a rainy season then this card is a must have. This card will have information on it pertaining to what the Plan B is. It may be an alternate location along with directions. It can also include a contact phone number to call 24 hours in advance to determine if in fact the plan B will be utilized.

If it’s not during a rainy season, you could have Plan B information put on your welcome letter or on your wedding website.

{Tent Rentals}

Reserve a tent. Most tent rental companies only require a deposit to reserve the tent and you can get the deposit back if you cancel within a few days of the wedding. This gives you the added security in knowing if you need the tent it is on reserve.

{Umbrellas}

If rainy weather is in the forecast have plenty of golf size umbrellas on hand for guests to use during the ceremony if no alternate area can be arranged. Even if you have an alternate indoor/covered location ushers can use umbrellas to escort guests from their vehicles to the

covered area. Purchasing umbrellas in coordinating wedding colors will make for beautiful rainy day wedding photos! {www.bellaumbrella.com} You could also stick umbrellas in drinks to play on the day!

{Rain Boots}

Great bridal party gifts, can always return them if the rain holds off! Your bridesmaids will be so grateful that they do not have to walk through puddles in their heels! Plus, who doesn’t need another pair of cute rubber rain boots! Check out the photo below with the red Hunters, Laura from Billingham Photography, lent her bride these fun and appropriate boots before taking her out for her portrait-we love when photographers offer extra ah-mazing props! Kudos, Laura!

{Rubber Ducks}

Embrace the Rain! Have cute props that you can incorporate into your wedding photos/photo booth such as rubber duckies and toy boats to place in puddles of rain to really reflect that you didn’t let the weather ruin your beautiful day.

{Alternative Photo Plans}

Talk to your photographer and find out alternative, unique places in case your planned outdoor photo sessions have to be re-routed indoors. Take this as an opportunity to be really creative, an art gallery, museum, etc.

Wedding Gratuity Tips & Guideline

As wedding planners, the most common questions we are asked right before the big day is who do we tip and how much? We hope this wedding gratuity guideline helps and please feel free to ask us any questions, we love to hear from our readers.

Preparing to Give
A week or two before your big day, sit back and reflect on the planning process and how the various vendors helped you with all the details that led up to your day. Follow your conscience to determine what you feel is right. Be sure to clarify with your vendors if the fee for their service already includes tips for support staff. Since some establishments automatically add a tip to the bill for service, be careful to avoid unnecessary double tipping. If you choose to extend gratuities, here a few ideas to help you get them in order:

1) Estimate each gratuity and then write a check or place cash into an envelope with the recipient’s name, and/or their title on the front of the envelope. The envelopes can be distributed to the appropriate vendors during or at the conclusion of services on the wedding day. An additional envelope can carry cash to make up for discrepancies once the final bill arrives and the percentages can be tabulated.

2) Write thank-you notes to the vendors who helped you throughout the planning process. Often, a sincere note of thanks is appreciated as much as a tip or even offering to write a referral online for your vendor, find out the websites where they are listed (weddingwire, theknot, etc.).

3) Give your planner cash in an envelope and have the wedding planner discreetly pass out the tips to various vendors who have gone above and beyond your expectations. Since your planner witnesses more levels of services from your vendors, the planner usually has a broad view of how well the vendors actually execute their services.

Mandatory Gratuities

Transportation and catering always include gratuities (15% to 20%) in the total  service fee. Gift basket delivery requires a $2 to $3 per bag or basket to have a bellman deliver to a guest room at a hotel. On occasion, hotel staff will hold a bag or basket behind the front desk and give it to the guest upon check-in, in which case it is wise to tip the front desk manager when you drop
off the bags or baskets, just to ensure that your request is executed.

How Much to Give

Since all your vendors are in the service business, gratuities are a kind and generous gesture of appreciation for going the extra mile to make your wedding day perfect. The following list is of vendors that usually receive gratuities on the wedding day. Keep in mind that gratuities are customary, but absolutely not mandatory.

The following receive a gratuity/tip almost all of the time:
